Daniela Herzog - Zen Master Mu Han Shim
My Zen journey began in the early 90’s within the European Kwan Um Zen School. Together with the father of my child I co-founded “Weissenbach Zen Center” in Germany – a zendo in our apartment, where we practiced intensively with a group of friends while raising our children.
A life-threatening illness at just 36 years old forced me to stop formal Zen practice for several years.
Witnessing my life, hopes, plans, and my body fall apart - this became my hwadu practice - every moment of every day:
What? Who? Life? Death? Constant letting go and holding nothing. My illness has been a relentless teacher, and I am grateful for all it taught me.
I hold a master’s degree in education and am trained in Permaculture Design, Compassionate Communication (NVC), Voice Dialogue, Focusing, and Naikan introspection. Having received Inga in 2004, I moved to FMZC in 2011 and received full transmission in 2019.
I serve as the Vice Abbess of FMZC and Guiding Teacher for the wonderful Sangha at Lexington Zen Center in Lexington, KY.
